David Moy will be discussing their image making practice. David’s images are born from the same tools that built the system. He uses them not just to negate adverts that pervade our minds and hold control over our wants and needs, but to implicate the very same tools that are constructing our reality. Karyn Nakamura will present various fun experiments in sensing, computer vision, optics, imaging, spatial calibration.

Three talks by Theresa Tomi Faison, Max C Lee & Erin Davis, and Carmelo Pampillonio followed by discussions. Theresa Tomi Faison will be discussing “\__ & O” a new 7 channel installation exploring implications of the early internet “long tail” theory, carrying the ideas forward to the AI era. If the long tail posited that subculture post-internet becomes ever more nichified, what does it mean when those subcultural outputs make up the data sets used to train LLMs? The work will open Thursday 9/24 at 260 Madison ave. After making enough gencore, Max C Lee realized prompt-centered generative music is a horrible slot-machine experience to produce, and has started exploring live performance with live generations. He will talk about gencore and its origins, their gencore production process, and recent live experiments with a locally-run MusicGen LoRA, MRT2, and vocal prompt tool. Carmelo will present two projects. The first is a full-duplex radio communications platform developed for Remote Viewing Platform that sends and receives visual media and interfaces with existing radio hardware. The second is a working prototype for diagnosing narrative manipulation across the public-private circuits linking technology companies, state actors, contractors, media platforms, and other institutional interests. Built from an evolving taxonomy, the tool is designed to make these operations legible and give the public more precise language to trace incentives, beneficiaries, and material interests.

Talks & Discussion

Two talks, the first by Stewart Bird on his project Zyme and the second by Justice Engineering. Stewart Bird will speak on ZYME, an ecosystem of software and techniques which produce source material and production tools for making visual artworks. ZYME began as an exploration of a single technique - blending the latent representations of two images to produce a hybrid “child” image, then recursively feeding the output back into the input, until the results took on the shape of a genealogy. From this starting point, a universe of procedural and systemic options revealed itself in practice to produce the current version of ZYME, and laid the foundation for future emergence. The talk traces a rough timeline of this development, and highlights how harnesses like Claude Code made more farfetched parts of the system possible that would otherwise have been too costly to build.

Two short talks by Ian Glover and James Hinton, then discussions to follow. Doors at 6:30; first talk at 7PM. Ian Glover will be presenting on 'The History of Programming as Linguistic Abstractions'. The talk will cover how we might be able to learn how AI will impact the future of programming by looking to the past. James Hinton will be presenting his talk called 'The Past and Future of Sampling in Music in the Age of AI'. James will be talking about how his process has evolved practically and theoretically with the advent of generative AI.
